In 2027, SIDeS will reach the milestone of fifty years of activity: it was, in fact, on 28 May 1977 that the statutes establishing the Society’s official birth were approved in Florence. From that moment onwards, demographers, historians, geographers, anthropologists and sociologists have found in SIDeS a unique forum for meeting and discussion, bringing together perspectives, themes and methods to renew our understanding of populations in the past. This fiftieth anniversary is not merely an occasion to celebrate, but a valuable opportunity to take stock of the journey so far and reinvigorate scientific debate. Over the decades, the triennial conference has been the driving force behind an ongoing exchange—open to other disciplines and extending into a European and global dimension—capable of examining population dynamics across different periods and contexts.
On the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of SIDeS’s foundation, the triennial conference seeks, in this spirit, to adopt an open perspective, not confined to a particular theme or period, and invites proposals for sessions and papers presenting new research in historical demography relating to any geographical area, including from a comparative perspective. Proposals for review and forward-looking papers are also welcome, whether methodological in nature or focused on historical-demographic sources.
Two types of proposals will be considered:
- Individual papers: the proposal must include the title, the authors’ names and affiliations, and an abstract of no more than 3,500 characters, including spaces.
- Sessions: the proposal must include the session title, the names and affiliations of the proposers, and a brief presentation of the topic and objectives. For each paper, the title, the authors’ names and affiliations, and an abstract of no more than 3,500 characters, including spaces, must be provided. Each proposed session must include a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 5 presentations.
Abstracts may be submitted in either Italian or English.
