Wednesday, June 25 at 4:00 PM, Room III of the Department of Statistical Sciences – UniBo: presentation of L’alba della storia by Guido Barbujani
On Tuesday, June 25 at 4:00 PM, in Room III of the Department of Statistical Sciences at the University of Bologna (Via Belle Arti 41), SIDeS is hosting a conversation with Guido Barbujani, author of L’alba della storia (Laterza, 2024).
“When humanity began to cultivate the land and domesticate animals, a different kind of history began—one that is still our own. Since then, the environment we live in, the food we eat, our physical appearance, and our social structures have all changed.
From the study of DNA to that of languages, from archaeological excavations to genetic engineering—and through the telling of exemplary stories—Guido Barbujani takes us back 10,000 years, to the Neolithic Revolution.”
The event will be moderated by Francesco Scalone (University of Bologna, SIDeS President) and will feature a contribution by Roberto Impicciatore (University of Bologna).
Guido Barbujani is a geneticist and writer, currently Professor of Genetics at the University of Ferrara. He has conducted research and taught at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, as well as at the universities of London (Queen Mary & Westfield College), Padua, and Bologna. His work focuses on the origins and evolution of human populations, with particular attention to the study of ancient and modern DNA. A prolific author, he has published scientific essays, novels, and popular science books, including L’invenzione delle razze, Sillabario di genetica per principianti, Gli africani siamo noi, and Come eravamo.
