This book, dedicated to the reconstruction of the past history of the author’s family (on both the paternal and maternal sides), is primarily based on oral tradition but also – and to a much greater extent – on the careful study of various documents, some preserved within the family and others available in archives.
However, the author’s focus is not solely on preserving the memory of private events and family relationships of ancestors from a more or less recent past. Over time, the author became aware that the various entrepreneurs’ activities developed by members of the family could spark interest beyond the immediate family circle.
Thus, the decision was made to also dedicate space to the birth and rapid development of entrepreneur’s ventures in the 19th century, which were able to take advantage of particularly favorable conditions. These are fascinating examples of the rise and establishment of a new entrepreneurs’ bourgeoisie within the context of 19th-century Tuscan sharecropping.
