Exhibition “The Water and the Land” and Presentation of the SIDES Publication
From June 16 to 18, the documentary exhibition “The Water and the Land” will be held at the Opificio delle Acque in Bologna. As part of the exhibition, on June 18 the volume Demography and the Environment in Historical Perspective will be presented

Within the framework of the project Resilience and Climate Memory in Emilia-Romagna – MEMOREC (University of Bologna), funded by the Alma CaReS – Climate Change, Resilience, Sustainability 2023 program, the documentary exhibition The Water and the Land: Floods, Landslides, and Storm Surges in Emilia-Romagna (17th–21st Centuries). A Visual Journey through Memory and Resilience will be held at the Opificio delle Acque in Bologna from 16 to 18 June 2026 (curators: Francesco Scalone, Raffaella Biscioni, Alberto Malfitano, and Domenico Uccellini).

Through archival documents and historical photographs, the exhibition traces the effects that floods, landslides, and storm surges have had on the communities of Emilia-Romagna from the seventeenth century to the present day. The exhibition also highlights the continuous efforts of local communities to confront natural hazards, mitigate their impacts, and strengthen collective safety.

In this context, on Thursday, 18 June 2026, at 11:30 a.m., the recently published volume Demography and the Environment in Historical Perspective will be presented. The book brings together the proceedings of the SIDeS conference held in Bari in 2024. The presentation will feature the editors, Angela Carbone and Domenico Uccellini (University of Bari Aldo Moro), together with Francesco Scalone, President of the Italian Society of Historical Demography.
