Call for Papers: “Epidemics, Gender, and Public Institutions in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries”
The call for papers is open for the international workshop “Epidemics, Gender, and Public Institutions in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries”, which will take place on 2–3 July 2026 at the University of the Balearic Islands (Faculty of Philosophy and Letters) in Palma de Mallorca.
The workshop aims to examine the social, political, and institutional consequences of epidemics in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, exploring how health crises have shaped processes of state transformation, governance practices, urban development, and cultural dynamics.
Scholars interested in participating are invited to submit a proposal including a title and an abstract (300–350 words) by 1 May 2026. Applicants will be notified of acceptance by 15 May 2026. Participation in the workshop is free of charge; however, travel and accommodation costs cannot be covered.
