Study Day “Historical-Social Sciences and Territory. For a New Season of Research in Ferrara and Beyond”

On Thursday, January 23, 2025, the Study Day “Historical-Social Sciences and Territory. For a New Season of Research in Ferrara and Beyond” will take place in Ferrara, initially at the Ariostea Library (9:00 AM – 1:00 PM) and later at the Niccolini Library (2:30 PM – 6:00 PM), on the occasion of the inauguration of the new Ferrara research unit of ISMed at the city’s Historical Municipal Archive (organized by CNR-ISMed and the Municipality of Ferrara).

The Study Day reviews the Ferrara1881 project, the first essential step in the creation of a geohistorical portal for the city of Ferrara. At the same time, it compares empirical studies based on a close relationship with the local territory (urban, rural, and other centers). The event aims to emphasize the importance of spatial dimensions for historical and social studies and the ambition for an interdisciplinary social science, capable of linking different perspectives, quantitative and qualitative approaches, past dynamics and present society, scholars, the population, and other institutional and associative actors active in the territory.

The opening greetings will be given by Grazia Maria De Rubeis (Library and Archives Service of the Municipality of Ferrara). This will be followed by the introductory speech by Michele Nani (CNR-ISMed, Ferrara): Introduzione. Una lunga collaborazione, una nuova presenza.
