It is announced that on March 25th and 26th, 2025, the workshop “Unlocking the Red Sea’s Mixedness” will be held at the Auditorium of the State Archive of Turin. This event will mark the kick-off of the ERC CoG REDMIX project – Unpacking Mixedness for an Inclusive History of the Red Sea, 1800s-2000s, a research project funded by the European Research Council (ERC).
The project aims to explore the role of people of mixed ancestry – such as Afro-Arabs, Afro-Asians, and Euro-Africans – in the historical and social processes of the Red Sea region.
The kick-off meeting will begin with a keynote lecture by Prof. Ann Laura Stoler (The New School for Social Research, New York), followed by thematic sessions with internationally renowned speakers.
The event is open to anyone interested in deepening their knowledge of the history of the Red Sea and its dynamics of mixedness.
Scientific Committee: Francesco Dragone, Valentina Fusari, Pierangelo Gentile, Lawrence Hirschfeld, Sara Zanotta.
