On March 13, at 2:00 PM, the presentation of Professor Livi Bacci’s book, “La geodemografia – Il peso dei popoli e i rapporti tra Stati”, published by Il Mulino in 2024, will be held in Rome at the National Academy of the Lincei.
The decline of Europe in the global context, the population explosion in Africa, the profound changes in migration flows, the vastly different fertility rates among countries and ethnic groups, and the rapid growth of large urban areas—these are all phenomena that have emerged over the past century, reshaping relations between states and regions worldwide. They influence political decisions with varying intensity and speed, often unpredictably. These transformations can be better understood through a fresh and broader perspective, enriched by the insights of geodemography. Drawing on a wide range of exemplary cases from recent world history, the book presents this new approach as a valuable tool for understanding international relations and their future developments.
Speakers at the presentation will include Roberto Antonelli, President of the National Academy of the Lincei, as well as Michele Ciliberto (Linceo; Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa) and Gianfranco Pasquino (Linceo; University of Bologna).
