Please note that from October 22 to 24, 2025, the conference “Hippocrates and the Epidemics: Knowledge, Institutions, and Medical Practices in the Ancient Italian States” will be held in Brescia, at the Sala della Gloria of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart. The event is organized by the Faculty of Humanities and Philosophy of the aforementioned university and is part of the 2022 PRIN PNRR project “Institutional Controls and Health Actions to Control Endemic and Epidemic Morbidity in Italian States between the 15th Century and National Unification.”
The conference brings together research contributions on epidemics in the early modern period, adopting a long-term perspective primarily focused on the Italian context, while also extending to case studies from other European regions. The event will offer an opportunity to analyze emergency health management policies, medical practices, the role of political-administrative institutions and ecclesiastical authorities over the centuries, as well as the contemporary healthcare structures.
