Documentary exhibition “Diseased Papers. Epidemics and Health Policies in the Land of Bari between the 17th and 19th Centuries.”
Bari – University of Bari Aldo Moro, State Archives of Bari, Diocesan Historical Archives of Bari, 5 November–5 December 2025

On 5 November 2025, at the University Library of the University of Bari Aldo Moro, the documentary exhibition titled “Diseased Papers. Epidemics and Health Policies in the Land of Bari between the 17th and 19th Centuries” was inaugurated. The exhibition aims to reconstruct the history of the most devastating epidemics of the modern age—from the seventeenth-century plague to cholera—paying particular attention to the Land of Bari.

The exhibition is a product of the 2022 PRIN PNRR Project “Institutional controls and health actions to control endemic and epidemic morbidity in the Italian States between the 15th century and national Unification”, which involved collaboration between the Department of Research and Humanistic Innovation (DIRIUM) of the University of Bari Aldo Moro and the Universities of Milan (Catholic University), L’Aquila, and the Institute of the History of Mediterranean Europe – CNR in Naples, as well as the Archival and Bibliographic Superintendency of Apulia, the State Archives of Bari, and the Diocesan Historical Archives of Bari.
The widespread exhibition, curated by Angela Carbone, Andrea Leonardi, Antonio Ciuffreda, and Domenico Uccellini (members of the local unit), is set up across three venues—the University Library, the State Archives of Bari, and the Diocesan Historical Archives of Bari—and will remain open until 5 December 2025, according to the following schedule:

• at the University Library (on the ground floor of the Palazzo Ateneo), it can be visited Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.;
• at the State Archives of Bari (Via Pietro Oreste 45), on Monday/Wednesday/Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. and on Tuesday/Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.;
