The Italian Society of Historical Demography (SIDeS) is pleased to announce the opening of registrations for the online course “Exploring Open Large-Scale Historical Demographic Databases”.
This online summer school is aimed at scholars (junior and senior), doctoral students and anyone with research interests in the field of historical demography. The first edition focused on Italian sources and received significant interest. The second edition will focus on sources that have been (or are in the process of being) made into large-scale databases that are or will be publically available for research. At the end of the course, participants will 1) understand the challenges of creating large-scale databases using diverse types of sources that are suitable for research, 2) understand their potential for allowing new research topics to be studied and 3) have acquired some preliminary information on how to work with them. The course will feature experts discussing several projects that illuminate different contexts, needs, challenges and opportunities using European sources, and a final session focusing on the Italian case. At the end of the course, all enrolled students will receive a certificate of participation.
Classes will take place online from 3 pm to 5 pm on the following Fridays: September 8th, September 15th, September 22nd, September 29th, and October 6th.

Registration is free for all SIDeS members. Those not enrolled in SIDeS can simultaneously apply to join our society and attend the summer course.
