On Monday, December 16, 2024, at 5:00 PM, the presentation of Like Gods Among Men: A History of the Wealthy in the West (Laterza, 2024) by Guido Alfani, Professor of Economic History at Bocconi University in Milan, will take place at the “Walter Bigiavi” Library of the University of Bologna (Via delle Belle Arti 33).
The author will discuss the book with Anna Soci, former Professor of Macroeconomics at the University of Bologna, and Stefano Toso, Professor of Public Finance at the same institution. The event will be introduced and moderated by Giorgio Tassinari, Professor of Economic Statistics.
The book offers an in-depth historical reconstruction of the causes and mechanisms behind the concentration of wealth in the hands of a few, exploring the role of inheritance, entrepreneurial skills, social networks, and economic opportunities.
